ROLE

CelebrateMercy is seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to support our accounting, financial reporting, audit preparation, and data analysis. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting experience who is highly organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and tech-savvy.

The position will work closely with the Operations Director and the organization’s CPA.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Review and accurately categorize financial transactions, including credit cards, checks, and deposits

  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations

  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records in QuickBooks

  • Prepare financial reports and track expenses by department, program, and campaign

  • Assist with budget-to-actual reporting and other financial analysis

  • Identify and investigate discrepancies and work with the Operations Director and CPA to resolve them

  • Generate and analyze financial and operational reports and key metrics

Audit & Compliance

  • Assist with annual audit preparation, including preparing reports, schedules, and supporting documentation

  • Coordinate routine audit requests and help ensure financial records remain audit-ready

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Help improve accounting and financial workflows through better processes, documentation, technology, and automation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • 5+ years of hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices

  • Experience with transaction coding, bank and credit card reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial records

  • High proficiency with spreadsheets

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail

  • Highly organized and able to independently manage responsibilities, recurring deadlines, and follow through on tasks

  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate proactively

  • Tech-savvy and able to quickly learn new software and systems

  • Ability to handle sensitive financial and organizational information with discretion

  • A sincere interest in the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and a desire to contribute to work that helps others know, love, and follow him

PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field

  • QuickBooks experience

  • Nonprofit accounting or nonprofit work experience

  • Audit preparation experience

  • Experience with Dext or similar accounting software

  • Experience creating dashboards, financial analyses, or data reports
